More vehicles are being assembled using aluminium frames as well as aluminium panels. Audi, Land Rover/Jaguar even Tesla electric vehicles are constructing their using a greater percentage of aluminium parts.

Manufacturers are now producing more vehicles using aluminium due to it being a strong metal that is light in weight compared to traditional metals such as steel. It also resists rust far better than most metals of equal or similar strength.

Aluminium’s importance and greater use in cars and commercial vehicles is accelerating due to the fact that it offers the quickest, most cost effective, structurally safest, better bio friendly way to increase vehicle performance, increase fuel economy and reduce emissions while maintaining or improving safety and durability.

Tesla and other electric vehicle manufacturers have taken to using more aluminium components and in some cases aluminium frames as their batteries have hugely increased in size (and weight). Main reason has been to maintain the overall vehicle weight.

We recently finished working on a 400+ horse power Tesla electric vehicle. Our brief was to remove dents, respray several panels, colour change to a satin finish all four alloy wheels and the most skilled, difficult task was to repair the damaged trunk (boot) The damage was severe, internally and externally.

Being that the trunk is manufactured from aluminium, strangely posed serious technical problems as it almost impossible to panel beat aluminium without causing further damage to its structure. Our client requested that we attempt the repair as we had successfully completed many other car body repairs to his vehicles over the years. Also Tesla we believe either send out their own specialists from Germany or the US for complex specialist delicate repairs.

Paint Mixing

Bodywork Xpress have two members of its team who are trained in vehicle colour formulation and paint mixing. During busy periods and when the paint is a difficult metallic or pearl paint we’ll instruct our paint suppliers to deliver specific to the vehicle being painted or resprayed.

In a recent bodywork repair and respray of a 2019 Tesla Model S we were informed by its owner (on completion) that Tesla approved or other repair centre was willing to touch the paintwork due it being a very difficult to reproduce. After taking consultation online Menz was able to confidently reproduce the exact same shade of red that everyone else wouldn’t touch.

The colour was so difficult to apply that the only way other repair centres would have taken on the job would have necessitated in the vehicle being resprayed (at enormous cost) as opposed to partially respraying the affected areas – saving our customer financially and perfecting the reproduction and restoration of his vehicle perfectly.
